Unfortunately, the majority of people here on NG treat the review feature as a comments section. There’s also quite a bit of people who rate and review things negatively just because they don’t like the genre, or you as a person, or some other personal and petty thing they use to justify bringing you down.

If you want to improve as a musician and get feedback, the Audio Forum is a great place to go! There’s multiple threads designed for this purpose.

@LPpassy96 In theory, “unhelpful reviews will be removed and may result in a ban”, as it’s said right below the text box, but there’s too many of these reviews and too few people care to report them, so in practice they stay.

If you go to the Community tab and look through the list of discussion posts, there’s a pull-down menu above the list that lets you select a forum. Here’s a link to the Audio Forum as well: https://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/forum/13

I’ll give your song a listen later! I’m not very experienced with any specific electronic genres, so I might not be of much help if you want that, but as someone classically trained I can give feedback on the composition of the whole thing.

With popularity comes scrutiny. When your stuff gets featured, a lot more people will see it, including those who might just not like the genre or style of music that you produce. So it's natural for the rating to go down a bit if the type of content does not appeal as much to a broader audience. Of course ratings are intended to be based on merit rather than personal taste, but that's not how it ends up going in reality.

I think tydaze hit the nail on the head. I had a lot of games on the front page and it's the most natural thing in the world that the score goes down at first. There are a variety of reasons for this, even if it's just that someone is having a bad day and giving zero points without ever having played the game.
